Including a “Contact Us” on Your Website

Building a website can be quite a time commitment. Not everyone realizes what goes into a quality website when they first set out to build one. While there are a lot of different components to building a successful website, one component I want to cover in today’s article is including a “contact us” on your website.
The “contact us” page is a very important part of your website design. It doesn’t matter if you are a contractor who needs clients to pick up the phone in order to get business or an online marketer who has a ticket system, letting your market know how they can reach you is an essential element to your online business.
Why is the contact us page so important?
1. It builds trust – Think about it. If you’re unwilling to let people contact you what kind of message is that sending them? People will wonder what you’ve got to hide and why they can’t ask you questions. On the other hand if you let them know you are readily available to answer their questions and support their needs you go a long way to build trust.
2. It’s good customer service – Don’t ever underestimate great customer service. Your customers may not go to their email or their product to find out how to contact you. For most their first point of search will be your website where they bought the product or hired your services. Make it easy for them to connect with you.
3. It opens up opportunities – Consider this: A magazine is surfing around the internet looking for an expert in just your market. They happen upon your website but can’t find your contact info. What do they do? Search around? Nope! They leave and find someone else and you’ve missed out on an opportunity. Keep the door of opportunity open by being easy to find.
So what do you put on your contact us page?
Well this is fairly straight forward but I do have some recommendations for you. First of all you’ll want the basic information:
- Name
- Email
- Phone Number
- Mailing Address
Then you might want to get into social media contacts and instant messaging if you use that for your business:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Skype
You also might provide a contact form on your website so people can connect with you immediately without having to go to their email account. I do recommend having a contact form but I don’t recommend letting it be the ONLY way people can contact you. People want to know who they are contacting and if you don’t provide them with an email address you are putting up a barrier and making it harder for the potential customer to trust you.
One more tip is to not only have a “contact us” page but put your contact information on your main page as well so people don’t have to surf around if they’re ready to reach out. So there you have an outline for creating a fantastic “contact us” page and why you should do so.
