Make Money Online

Posts Tagged ‘flexibility’

It’s safe to say that the internet has changed the world in insurmountable ways, and perhaps no industry has been so heavily affected by the digital age than marketing and advertising. No longer are print, radio and television campaigns considered to be the top advertising methods. Rather, advertising has turned to the power and flexibility of the internet. While there are literally hundreds of unique online marketing techniques, businesses are quickly learning that one of the best and most effective is advertising local online.

Many people who hear this term of related terms find themselves confused as to how something as global as the internet can be used in a local context. The fact is, social media and Web 2.0 has shifted internet usage to a whole new realm, one where people are utilizing the net to connect locally as well as globally. More and more, social media sites allow people to market to a local audience.

There are, of course, a variety of different ways to market to a local audience online. Online advertising campaigns generally consist of a strategic plan that takes into account various marketing efforts such as search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing. The idea is to create an all-inclusive online presence that will appeal not only to a global market, but to a local one as well. Many businesses do not take into consideration the importance of local search advertising because they feel as if the more traditional marketing techniques, such as print and direct mail, are more suited to reaching the local market. While these techniques do still matter, they are far more effective when combined with advertising for local consumers.

The benefits of marketing locally online are tenfold. For one, it tends to be far less expensive than other techniques, as the internet has opened up the floodgates for effective and inexpensive marketing. Since the internet generally is not held back by the same issues that affect mediums such as print (space, mainly), costs can be cut without compromising the potential quality of the marketing campaign. This allows businesses to effectively get more “bang for their buck” when planning out their marketing strategies, and can be instrumental in attracting new business and keeping current clients interested.

So when it comes time to reevaluate one’s marketing plan, it is wise to consider advertising locally on the Web, and to always remember that a strategic plan is best when it encompasses a variety of different techniques.

Evolution of Network Management and Server Support

Network computing continues to evolve with the new wave of “cloud computing”. WAN (Wide area network, namely the Internet) has become the new LAN (Local Area Network, which was traditionally the office network). High availability, flexibility, and pay as you go pricing of the cloud offers huge dependability and value especially for small and medium sized businesses. Coming back to the topic, how is Network Management and Application / Server Support evolving with the way that the network continues to change?

The IT Support Industry started off with Value Added Resellers (VAR’s) who sold equipment (servers, desktops, routers, switches, firewalls etc) to companies. They then also started to offer systems integration services to manage the infrastructure. All the work needed to be performed on-site at the customer premises, and hence engineers needed to be dispatched every time a customer faced a problem. Sounds really inefficient in today’s technology terms, doesn’t it?

With the internet going mainstream and the advancement of remote access technologies and tools, the concept of remote IT management or remote systems management became more prevalent. This was the onset of what we call “Managed IT Services”. Managed Services uses a pro-active approach to managing IT Systems, which includes continuous monitoring of the network and performing recurring preventative maintenance activities and troubleshooting of the systems using remote login tools and software. IT Support Companies charge by the server or device and typically provide unlimited, all inclusive support for the small business network. There are numerous vendors providing platforms and software for remote management including companies like Kaseya, Labtech, Level Platforms, Adventnet, N-Able, Zenith Infotech and many others.

Fast forward to today and the future. The cloud will certainly be a game changer for small and medium business IT Support companies. Going from VAR’s to services to managed services and now on to the cloud. Is the future for the IT service providers weak then? Not really. Fact remains that businesses need their applications running and monitored and deployed and continuously upgraded. The IT Service provider will continue to play a large role in all of the above.

Vikram Khanna is the Managing Director of Proval Technologies, a leading provider of Server Management and Server Support for growing businesses in the United States (USA). ProVal’s remote it support services and business it services proposition makes it a great value-add for SME’s.

VPS Proxy Servers – Servers Virtually Everywhere!

A VPS proxy server allows any business or individual to set up their own private servers to their exact specifications. Anywhere there is internet access there the proxy server will be. They are an inexpensive and practical solution to the higher prices of internet hosting. They have the same capabilities and features of any dedicated server in many cases, and are actually easy to create, once the VPS server has been established. Flexibility and mobility are keywords for any business in these times, and being able to keep up with all the new advances, and allow for multiple users from all over the globe keeps your company a step ahead of the competition.

More and more applications online are becoming readily available for even the smaller companies, giving a more level playing field. In order to keep up, becoming more flexible and willing to change is paramount for any company, large or small. Storing data and documents in a secure online server with off site backup is essential to cutting back on storage and wasted space in the office, and this is only a fraction of the possibilities.

An office no longer has to be in the main building of the company. Staff can work in any location, at the same time on a VPS. The cost savings of office space and web hosting can really add up. Telecommuting is becoming an attractive alternative for many businesses, and more actual work can get accomplished this way. When any member of the staff can access the sites or projects they are working on from any location with an internet connection, they are generally more productive than if having to drive into work, stay late, etc.

Any amount of proxy servers can be established, and the software to do so can be had free online. Once a VPS is established, the only limit is what the server allows for space and bandwidth. In most cases the VPS is very low priced, especially when compared to a dedicated server’s costs. Once a hosting service is established, then it is easy to set up proxy servers on an as needed basis, for whatever application you choose. Setting them up for specific projects and uses allows the company to keep track of the daily operations and staff input in real time, increasing productivity. With the lower expense and ease of installation, proxy servers make good business sense for any size company, and are especially useful for smaller, start up companies.

myhosting.com provides cost-effective VPS Hosting designed to help enhance productivity and maximize resources. With over 12 years of experience, myhosting.com provides a full suite of services from shared web hosting, to Hosted Exchange Email and VPS Hosting services for SMBs and businesses of any size.

Blogging As an Online Money-Making Option

Blogging is one of the most effective ways of making money online. The article that follows reveals some of the techniques that you can use to make good sums by blogging.

Blogging is great because of the flexibility it offers and you have the opportunity of writing whatever you feel like and that may, in some way, help you earn some money. This implies that you could write about your hobbies like knitting or basketball and you can earn a decent online income for that.

When you write a blog, you need to keep in mind a specific target audience. You need to analyze the audience, find out what their likes and dislikes are and write accordingly. You can then decide on how you want to earn money from your blog.

There are several ways of making online from blogs:

  • Affiliate Marketing: You can place affiliate-links that are relevant to the topic you are writing on so that when a visitor visits a link and makes a purchase, you earn a part of the profit earned from that sale.
  • Sponsors: Sponsoring your blogs is one of the effective ways of monetizing it. You can earn on a monthly basis from your advertisements.
  • PPC Networks: You can sign up a PPC network like BidVertiser or Google AdSense and you can display some ads that are relevant on your website. Every time a visitor clicks on the ad that has been displayed on your blog, a revenue is earned by you and there is no requirement for a purchase also.
  • Consulting: There are many people who are ready to pay you for consultation after reading your blog.

If your intention is making money online, then there is nothing that beats blogging. You get all the comforts of working from home and still earning a pretty good amount. If your blog becomes popular, then you could even earn great sums.

What is a Plug-In, Anyway?

If you’re new to the blogging world, or if you’re starting your own website for a new business, odds are you’re a little overwhelmed by all the terminology out there. You’ve got to buy a domain name, find web hosting, and then choose a content management software that is user-friendly and that offers the flexibility and options you need.

Once you choose your content management software (and odds are you’ll choose WordPress) the site still isn’t finished. You’ve got to choose a theme (something that requires a lot of thought and consideration) that fits your purpose, and you’ve got to work with that theme to make it work for you. One way you can do that is by utilizing the many plug-ins that WordPress has to offer.

But what is a plug-in? By definition, it is a software add-on that performs a specific function in the scope of a larger software application. So, it’s something that you add to WordPress to make it do something it doesn’t automatically do all by itself. You’ve seen those commercials where they say there’s an “app” for something? That’s basically what a plug-in is. It’s an added application that adds a special feature to your website.

One of the categories for plug-ins relates to search engine optimization (SEO). These tools work to make your website rank higher on the internet’s search engines. They help those search engines find your website better than they can find other websites, making your website come up in searches, which then increases your traffic.

Another plug-in category relates to media. If you work with a lot of photos and/or videos, most WordPress themes need a little help when it comes to really making those images or videos pop. There are plug-ins that can even allow you to display your photos in a Flash slideshow.

A very important plug-in category is the one that relates to your site’s stats. You can track how much traffic your website gets, what type of visitors it pulls in, and what keyword is drawing them in. You can also see what search engine they’re using to get to your site, and whether or not Twitter or another social media site is bringing in traffic.

Speaking of social media sites, there are plug-ins related to that as well. You can install a plug-in that will automatically tweet your posts, and you can even expand that plug-in to tweet other internet posts that relate to your content.

Another helpful plug-in type is one that manages and blocks spam. There is a surge of comment spam on today’s internet, and some plug-ins help flag and filter spam comments so that you don’t even have to moderate them. This is a great time-saver, as well as something that helps your website maintain its credibility.

There are many plug-ins out there that will help you realize your fondest wishes when it comes to your website. Make sure you choose plug-ins that offer support, since a lot of WordPress theme creators do not offer support in regards to plug-ins. Choose wisely, and you will not be sorry.

The Internet – Now & Then

Since its conception, the Internet has been the most important invention in recent history, arguably since electricity itself. It has literally changed the face of humanity forever, and constantly evolves its speed and flexibility.

I remember a time not too long ago when only a few people I knew had the Internet. I was at school at the time, and only a privileged and technologically advanced few (ha!) had the fortune of a PC and a phone line. I would more or less constantly be round some poor person’s house, excitedly anticipating the clicking and shrieking of their 56k dial-up modem, all the while expecting a scream from downstairs when someone needed to use the phone!

Pages loaded slowly, and had even less content than most business cards, but the prospect of this apparently limitless wealth of information astounded me. During the day at school I would be twiddling my thumbs in lessons, wondering what useless rubbish I could stumble upon that evening. Then came the social aspect…

The earliest social aspect I could remember were the chat rooms, where millions of anonymous, faceless entities spouted nonsense at each other from every corner of the globe. Split into their own subject groups, the chat world was a really eye opening experience for someone of my age. Teenagers struggle with identity at the best of times, but to find people in other countries from other walks of life with similar interests to me was immense.

As time moved on, the Internet got faster and spanned its size on business and official organisations. More and more companies and groups were putting a web address to their name, or on their products. There wasn’t a great deal to look at on said websites, but it was a prestige thing – if they could AFFORD to get a web page then they meant business!

However these days you literally cannot have a self-respecting business without some portion of it being online. Every product you can pickup in a supermarket, from cans of fizzy drink to cleaning products will have a web address on it somewhere.

So where has it brought us to? I look at kids now who are the age I was when the net came to the masses, and they almost can’t breathe without their fix. But it’s not as if they are deprived! You can get on my local bus route now, open up your laptop or iPhone and use the free hi-speed wi-fi provided by the bus company! Failing that, flip your phone and send an email or find the lottery results. The internet is in homework assignments, and the use of laptops has been incorporated in some exams!

There’s no argument that it’s changed us socially, the way we talk and the way we interact has now changed forever. It’s a lubricant used for meeting new people – hardly anybody meets new friends through work or school anymore. And don’t even THINK about real life dating agencies or simply going out for drinks to find a new partner – just hop online and peruse MySpace! Even bullying isn’t done like it was in my day – oh no – these days we have ‘memes’; an online community inside joke that often spirals into a worldwide phenomenon, just because some old guy fell over or someone tried to make a rap video.

Yes, arguably a lot of the internet has gone to waste on moronic children who care more about Twittering their bowel movements than self-educating – but whether you like it or not it’s here to stay.
